Kelbie's Ear Update

So ever since Kelbie was born we  have been discouraged as to if she could hear since her  right  ear didn't develop on the outside. So after being sent to the best ENT at Texas Children's she told us to get a brain steam hearing test done along with and ultrasound of her kidneys. Apparently it is  common for the kidneys not to form if the ear does not form. I had not been told that by any other doctor so I was a little worried.

Yesterday my dad and I ventured all over Houston to get the two tests done. We had to drive all the way out to Cypress for her hearing test. There are only 3 locations that  do that kind of testing (Cypress, The Med Center and The Woodlands). Texas Children's in the Med Center couldn't get us in until February and I  was not going to wait that long to find out if my daughter can hear or not. The test was actually pretty cool and it turns out she CAN hear out of both ears. We will have to do a CT Scan later to see if  the  whole right inner ear is  developed and if it is then she  will just need the reconstruction surgery in a few years. If they have to create some of the inner ear, she will still be able to hear it will just not be as  well as her left ear.  So after the hearing test we headed to Texas Children's in  the afternoon to do her ultrasound. Everything looked fine that I could see, but then again I have no clue what I am really looking at. We  should know sometime next week what the results were.

Needless to say  we are all very happy to know that she will not have a sever hearing problem. I was starting to worry that she couldn't hear at all, so the test has put me at ease about that. She was a trooper almost the whole day yesterday with everything they were doing. Thanks to everyone who has been prayer for her. The prayers seem to have been answers. This is still going to be a long process with the surgery's but we are in great hands with the ENT at Texas Children's.
