I Love Her!

Shannon took some pictures when we were celebrating my mom's birthday and posted them on her blog today. This picture was there and I couldn't help but post it myself. It is totally Kelbie.

What Mom? I'm just drinking my juice!

Ten on Tuesday

1. What did you do this weekend?
Not much really. It was pretty chill. James worked on Saturday for most of the day so Kelbie and I hung out and went to Babies R Us. Sunday James and I mowed the grass and stuff while Kelbie napped and then we played outside on the swing set.

2. Do you prefer short fingernails or long fingernails?
Short. I always bite my nails so they never get very long and when I get fake nails I make them cut them pretty short. I guess its because I have never had nails so I can't really function with them if they are long.

3. What is your favorite use for Pinterest?
Everything. I am totally addicted to that site. I have tried a few recipes that have turned out okay. I think right now my favorite part is all the crafts. I have done several for around the house and I have a ton that I want to try with Kelbie when I have some free time.

4. Do you sleep with your mouth open?
I don't think so. Maybe if I am congested I do, but I am pretty sure I sleep with my mouth closed. Maybe James can answer that question. He would know I am sure.

5. Where did you have the best pizza you’ve ever eaten?
I don't know if there has been a place with the best pizza ever, but ones for Chicago are pretty good. It doesn't take much to impress me with pizza. I am pretty happy with almost any kind even most frozen ones.

6. What do you eat for breakfast on weekdays?
Yogurt, Oatmeal, Bagel, Pop tart, Fruit. It really depends on what I grab on my way out the door. Those are the items I usually choose from.

7. Do you watch awards shows? Why or why not?
Usually. I always watch the Country awards and the Video Music awards. I tired to watch the Oscars the other night but it really wasn't holding my interest. If I don't watch them I at least DVR them so that I can' fast forward and see what I want to see.

8. Can you whistle? Snap? Curl your tongue? Bend down and touch your palms to the ground?
I can do all but touching my palms to the ground. I used to be able to do that but I am not flexible anymore. I miss those days when I go do all kinds of things and it not be a challenge. Maybe I should exercises and stretch and see if I can get back to where I was in high school :)

9. What email service do you use?
Yahoo!

10. What is your favorite outdoor activity?
I like playing outside with Kelbie when it is nice, but to be completely honest I like to just lay out and tan. I have always like to do that and I am hoping the weather is going to start being nice so that it can happen. I am so white I feel like I look like Casper!

Life as we know it!

I feel the need to update the blog with something other then Ten on Tuesday. Our lives really aren't that exciting and I never have pictures uploaded when I decide to sit down and blog. So what has been going on in our lives?

James hasn't been working as much over time as we are used to which is a good thing, but come Spring Break he will be back on a project and then of course come summer who knows how often we will see him. I don't even know how he does what he does. I wouldn't be able to make it. There are alot of times I complain about his job because I never see him or because he gets call to go help other people when we are in the middle or something or have something planned, but in truth I am very proud of the work he does and how hard he works to keep a roof over our head. I know if we were to switch places for a day I would miss my quite job.

I am loving working for the school district. I love the hours and the time off. The school I am at is also awesome. Everyone is very friendly and I have made quite a few friend since starting. There have been days that I have been stressed or worked up over little things but I try my best to go above and beyond what I am expected to do. I was thinking about working summer school for some extra money but I can't decided what I want to do. The ESL summer school is being held at our school which wouldn't be to bad. I guess I need to wait and see where regular summer school is and then decide from there. It does kinda jam up my summer if I decide to work, but it is extra money on top of my normal pay check so I have to weigh my options.

Kelbie is doing great. We have been fighting an ear infection and I guess allergies for what seems like months now. She will get better and then with in a week she is sick again. Last Monday we went to the doctor because she couldn't kick her yucky cough and turns out she had an ear infection. She was put back on some strong antibiotics and it seemed to help. The cough came back last night but it doesn't seem to be a mucusy cough but more of a dry cough. I am hoping it is just allergies. If this keeps up we might be taking her to an allergist over the summer to see if they can tell exactly what she is allergic to. In other Kelbie news, she has steadied out on her growing. She is still about 25-26lbs and is very tall. Still not talking but is very smart. She understands everything we tell her and is is constantly asking you to tell her what things are in her books. We are going to see a speech therapist over Spring Break to do a consultation on her as to if they think she needs speech or if she is just going to be a late talker. She loves to play with Indiana now and Indiana is finally starting to come around to the fact that Kelbie is there. Only took 16 months but its better then nothing I guess. I can't believe how much she has changed since she was born much less in the pat few months. She is so independent and such a little person now. She still has her moments where she need to be with Mommy and even though sometimes its a little too much when I am trying to get something done, I know I need to enjoy them because there will come a time when she wants nothing to do with me. On a totally different note I really think Kelbie is going to be a tomboy. We were playing outside this past weekend and she was sliding down the slide by herself and when she got to the bottom she ended up face first in the mud. I thought for sure she was going to cry but instead she got up and just smiled, she had dirt and mud all over her face and she didn't care. She went right back to sliding and swinging. I guess James might get his wish after all.

James, Kelbie and I are going away on a little weekend trip at the end of April to either San Antonio, Galveston or a place in Flint for our anniversary. Yes I know it might be a little weird that we are taking Kelbie with us but we are going to places that are good for kids and have stuff that she will like to do. Maybe we are weird but we like taking Kelbie with us. I am hoping sometime in the next year or so we will finally be financially stable enough that James and I can go on a cruise that we have been wanting to take for a few years now. I guess only time will tell.

Ten on Tuesday

Provided by a non-blogging, math teacher friend of RootsandRings. I am horrible at math so this is going to be interesting. Happy reading!

0.01×10^2. What was your best/worst day in math class?
Well since I have hated math since the 4th grade thanks to my math teacher, I pretty much hated everyday that I had math, which was every day, every year until Senior year when I choose not to take math class.

20×10^-1. Who was your favorite/least favorite math teacher? Why?
Well my least favorite math teacher was Mrs. Meschi (pretty sure I spelled her name wrong) in the 4th grade. She was so mean. She basically set me up for failure.  My favorite math teacher was Mrs. Russow. She was very chill and down to earth. She tried to help me get the hang of Geometry even though I had no clue what I was doing.

3×10^0. Is it okay to be bad at math if English is more your thing?
Sure I guess. I mean everyone has their strong subjects and their weak subjects. I personally wasn't good at either. It really is amazing that I graduated from High School with somewhat decent grades and I had more then the amount of credits you needed to graduate. This here is why College just didn't work out for me.

0.4×10^1. How does this video make you feel?
Pageants are not in the future for Kelbie or any of our children for that matter. Have you seen Toddlers & Tiaras, I mean come on that is a little over the top. I guess there is something for everyone though, but I will not waste what little money I have on that.

500×10^-2. What do you like/not like about math?
What do I like about math? That is a good question as I don't really like it at all. I guess I like some of the basic things I learned in school, I do like the trick I learned for multiplying by 9's.  What I don't like. Just about everything related to math. I really don't like when they add the letters in with the numbers as it just completely confuses me.

0.006×10^3. What makes someone a nerd?
Scy-fi geeks (sorry if you are reading this and you are one) and people who wear socks with sandals. They are called sandals for a reason.

7×10^0. Who is the nerdiest person you know?
I am not sure I really know anyone personally that is a big nerd. I guess everyone is a nerd in their own way with something right?

80×10^-1. What is the nerdiest thing you’ve ever done?
I have no idea. I am sure James or one of my friends would be able to better answer this question. I am sure I have done a ton of nerdy things but they might not seem nerdy to me.

0.9×10^1. Do you think GraphJam is funny?
I had never heard of this so I just googled it and it looks interesting. I am going to look at it some more and see if I find it funny

10×10^1. Have you ever used math outside of school?
Yes and no. I have to do basic math, but I haven't had to use Pre-Algebra or Geometry since High School. Now if I had a job that was math or numbers related I would probably use this stuff more. Its like everyone says, "Why do you really need math, you will never use it outside of school". This is a basically true statement

Ten on Tuesday

1. How do you feel about Valentine’s Day?

It's just another day to me. James and I dont' really celebrate it. We get each other cards and a small gift, but we never go out or really do anything special.

2. Are you in love?
I would have to say yes. I love James and couldn't imagine being with anyone else. I am also in love with Kelbie who is the light of my life and the perfect combination of James and I.

3. What is your favorite love song?
I don't know if I really have a favorite. I guess the song James and I danced to at our wedding, which was Big & Rich's Lost in the Moment.

4. Did your parents do anything for you on Valentine’s Day when you were a child?
I got a card and some candy, sometime I would get flowers.

5. What is your love language? (Click here if you want to take the quiz.)
Well I tried to take the quiz but the website is blocked where I am at right now.

6. How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? Gifts? Dinner?
Usually a card and a small gift. This year we did Valentine's Day a little early. I got James a card and some candy, he got me a card, this funny talking devil stuffed animal and a flower to plant when it warms up. Kelbie got a card, bubbles, stickers, hair bands, and a coloring pad.

7. What is your favourite flower?
Tulips, Roses, Calla Lillies, I am pretty much not picky as long as they look good. I do on the other hand not like the way Carnations smell after they have been sitting for a couple days.

8. What is your favourite love story? (Book and/or movie.)
The Notebook, The Proposal, When In Rome... I am sure there are more but I can't think of them right now.

9. What is the most romantic thing someone has ever done for you? Or you have done for someone?
That is a good question. I really can't think of anything romantic that someone has done for me. James is not into the whole romance thing so maybe a boyfriend before him but I can't remember. They must not have left a huge impression on me if I can't remember.

10. How did you meet your spouse/significant other?
We met in 2007 thanks to MySpace. Talked for a few days on the Internet, the a few days on the phone before we decided to met up then we basically started dating right after that. We moved in together after a month of dating, got engaged Christmas of 2007, married April 2009, and welcomed Kelbie October 2011.  I can't believe we have been together for 5 years and married for almost 3. It doesn't seem like that long. I can still remember a lot about when we first met.

Happy Valentine's Day Early

We took Kelbie to get some photo's taken since we hadn't had any done since her birthday. My mom renewed our membership with Picture People so I have 3 picture sessions with them this year. Well needless to say after we have used this membership we wont be getting another one. They do a good job I have just been a little disappointed the last few times I have tried to go. I also don't get her picture made as much as I used to so I don't see the point. We can do JcPennys or Target if we want to get some done. Here are the ones from her Valentine's day photo shoot.

Girls and their Dolls

Kelbie loves playing with her doll. She is so sweet with her. She likes to feed her a bottle, carry her around, push her in the doll stroller and even make sure she is wrapped up in a blanket to stay warm. Never in my wildest dreams did I think Kelbie would take to a doll the way she has. It is great and so cute. This also come in handy when we are hanging out with her cousins as Trystan is still little and Kelbie treats her just liker her doll. She wants to hold Trystan and trys to give her a paci and everything. I think Kelbie will make a great Big Sister one day and I just can't get enough of her playing with her doll. She comes home everyday and looks for her to play with.

Kelbie Loves Indiana

Since the day we brought Kelbie home from the Hospital, Indiana has wanted nothing to do with her. In fact she thought Kelbie was another disturbance just like the dogs. Over the past couple of months Kelbie has been very interested in petting Indiana. I think this is because when we were in Kansas, James's mom had a cat that would let Kelbie do whatever she wanted to him and he just laid there. Everytime she wanted to see Indiana I would get her and hold her so that Kelbie could hug her and pet her. Well Friday night Indiana came out into the living room while Kelbie was awake and let her hold and pet her without having to be held down. I was excited for the progress that Indiana was making with Kelbie and I loved seeing the pure excitement on Kelbie's face. Enjoy!

Big Girl Bed

So call me crazy but I thought it would be fun to try Kelbie in her toddler bed. Yes she is only 16 months but she is a good sleeper and I just wanted to see how she did. So this past Saturday after her morning nap, I switched her crib over to her toddler bed. Downside to the crib we bought is that when you switch it over it doesn't have a rail so I ended up having to search all over Babies R Us and Toys R Us to find a crib rail so that she wouldn't roll out of her bed. She watched me do the whole thing and seemed to be really interested. Then it came time for afternoon nap and she refused to sleep in it. I did feel a little guilty as I took her comfort zone away from her but I thought we would keep trying over the weekend. Saturday night she went down fine and slept all night, she didn't try to get out at all, even when she woke up in the morning and was playing until I came in. Needless to say what I thought was going to be a disaster at such a young age has turned out to work pretty well. She sleeps just as good as she did in the crib and she hasn't escaped yet. I think we are officially in the Toddler bed. Now if she does start to get out and play the crib will probably be going back up, but I don't think it will come to that.

Big Girl Bed!
First night sleeping in it and she was out like a light!

Ten on Tuesday

1. How do you feel about Groundhog’s Day?
To me its just another day. He seems to always see his shadow and predict another 6 weeks of winter. Sometimes he is right and other times he is wrong.

2. What color are your fingernails right now? (Bonus points if you include a picture.)
Clear. I have been trying a bunch of different colors the past couple of weeks, but it keeps chipping off. I wash my hands to much to keep a color on them.

3. Do you like riddles?
They are fun. Sometimes they make my brain hurt but who doesn't love a good challenge?

4. When you were 10, how old did you think “old” was? At your current age, how old do you think “old” is?
When I was 10 I probably thought like 30 was old. Now that I am 26 I feel like 80 is old. I hope I live to be at least 80 if not older.

5. Do you wish on stars?
Well you can't really see stars from where I live so I dont' really get a chance to wish on stars. If I was out in the country and got the chance to just relax and look up at the stars, I might wish on a star.

6. Do you recycle?
No I am really bad about it. We lived in apartments for the longest time so recycling really wasn't an option. Now that we are in a house we have a very nice recycle can but I always forget to separate the trash from the stuff that we can recycle. Maybe one day I will get better about it, but I have to many other things going on in my head to remember at this current point.

7. On a scale from 1-10, how good of a cook are you?
I would say maybe a 5 or 6. I dont' like to cook but I do have few things that I can cook pretty well. I am trying to get better and trying to try new things so that we don't eat the same 5 things every week. Thanks to Pinterest I have found some very yummy things I will one day try.

8. Do you color your hair? Professionally or at home?
I do every once in awhile. The guy who did my hair for my wedding will come to my house and color or do highlights for me and he is super cheap. You can't beat that. I really could use a color or something on my hair now that I cut it short. Maybe highlights since we are getting close to spring.

9. One a scale from 1-10, how do you rate your manners?
Maybe like a 7. I haven't really thought about it. I think my manners are okay. I try to be polite and everything but something I forget. I have manners though so that is a plus. Some people don't have any. That would be a good question to ask someone around me since I don't pay attention.

10. Who are the last 5 people you have texted?
Margaret (our sitter), My brother, My sister-in-law, a co-worker and my bank (does that count?)

Anniversary Thoughts!

So this post is a little early as our Anniversary isn't until the end of April, but I have started to look into places to go. On our first anniversary we just went to Galveston and were not happy with the Hotel we stayed in, plus I was pregnant and I am not a huge fan of Galveston in the first place. Then last year we had Kelbie so we didn't do anything. My brother and Sister-In-Law watched her and we went out to dinner. So this year I am thinking San Antonio. What isn't to love about San Antonio? There is plenty to do and eat and it would be a fun place for Kelbie. Is it weird that I want to take my daughter on our anniversary trip? I think she would have so much fun at the Zoo and just seeing all the fun things in San Antonio. I am not sure where we are going to stay but I know I want to stay close to the River Walk. If you have any suggestions of fun family things to do while we are there besides the Zoo let me know. I also know we will be doing breakfast at the Guenther House because they have the best breakfast. I can't believe it will be 3 years already. It doesn't seem like it has been that long.
